Frequently Asked Questions

It is best to leave what you found undisturbed as much as possible and have a thorough Austrapest pest inspection. The professional inspection will identify if you have termites, what species and what management plan would be most suitable for your home.

Termite damage

In 1995 Organochlorine chemicals were voluntarily discontinued. This created a ripple effect across the Pesticide Industry. This was actually the greatest challenge the Industry has experienced in its Australian history. Chemical manufacturers introduced many new safer products and treatment methods to the Pest Management Industry.

The newer methods of termite baiting, monitoring and early interception prove that very low toxicity active ingredient chemical compounds can be used and are very effective in the control of termites.

Chemical companies have introduced many new chemical compounds to the industry for installing a chemical treated zone to buildings/ structures which are again very low toxicity and if applied the correct way pose very little health risk to humans, animals and the environment.

It is best to leave what you found undisturbed as much as possible and have a thorough Austrapest pest inspection. The professional inspection will identify if you have termites, what species and what management plan would be most suitable for your home.

We would suggest that as a consumer don’t be afraid to ask. Ideally if you have a personal recommendation from someone that we are honest, reliable and will solve all your pest problems then believe them.

We are fully qualified well above the Industry average, PestCert and Pest Inspection Registrar accredited, licenced (NSW Workcover Licence), fully insured, belong to the peak pest control association (AEPMA) and we have been around since 1949. Also have a look at our testimonials.

Unfortunately in NSW only a basic 3 units of Competency are required to obtain a Pest Control Licence which may explain some of the less desirable performances by some of the members of the Industry.

These 3 units do not require any experience or competency for inspections, timber pests and their control.

Your local Austrapest/ Kevmac termite experts have a minimum 13 Units of competence including units 8 and 10 (Timber Pest Inspections and their control) plus additional tertiary education.

Well, some of the reasons are due to the demands of being properly insured, compliance with Australian Standards and Codes of Practice and legal obligations. It is also important to have the correct information when making decisions about termite treatments.

Cockroaches and household nuisance pests like ants can cause health risks for you and your family. Cockroaches are also known to carry allergens which can induce asthma. Austrapest uses the safer synthetic pyrethroids and pyrethrums.

Besides health concerns, rats can cause structural problems and fires if allowed to chew through electric cables.

The normal procedure is to bait roof voids, concealed voids and subfloor areas with multiple dose baits (commonly Brodifacoum, Difethialone, Bromadialone). These baits are very effective on rodents and have little to no risk of secondary poisoning in non target animals/pets. Warfarin has a high risk of secondary poisoning on non target animals. Do not use if can be avoided.

In re-occurring infestations, modification of the external environment and use of lockable rodent boxes may be necessary (available through Austrapest). Use of lockable rodent boxes are designed for sensitive areas to protect children and pets.
